Located in the Upper Rhine Valley Brine Field between Germany and France, Vulcan is producing lithium chemicals and renewable energy from the same naturally heated geothermal brine resource.

Anchored by our flagship Lionheart Project, we are developing a new model for lithium production that combines proprietary VULSORB® technology with renewable geothermal energy.

From the resource to battery-quality lithium chemicals and renewable energy generation, we are integrating more of the value chain to help strengthen Europe's energy security, support resilient battery supply chains and accelerate the transition to electrification.

Our story

2018

Founded by Francis Wedin and Horst Kreuter with a vision to decarbonise lithium production using geothermal energy and develop a European source of battery materials.

Listed on the ASX.

2021

Commenced operation of its lithium extraction pilot plant in Landau, Germany, demonstrating lithium extraction from geothermal brine

Acquired geothermal engineering businesses GeoThermal Engineering GmbH and gec-co Global Engineering & Consulting, bringing critical technical expertise in-house.

2023

Completed the Lionheart Bridging Engineering Study, defining the Phase One production pathway.

2025

Secured ~$4bnAUD to fund the construction of Lionheart, including strategic equity and debt level finance and government funding

Commenced commercial construction of Lionheart

2026

Released a positive Preliminary Feasibility Study for Project Ludwig, our second integrated lithium and renewable heat development, demonstrating a repeatable growth platform beyond Lionheart.

Vulcans integrated business

From the upstream resource to downstream finished materials, Vulcan’s integrated approach will deliver a basket of products  for the European battery supply chain. Our lithium applications include electric vehicles as well as battery energy storage systems for renewable energy and uninterrupted power supply for data centres and artificial intelligence.
