Lionheart

Lionheart is our first commercial phase of production and one of the most significant lithium developments in Europe.

Located in Germany’s Upper Rhine Valley, Lionheart is designed to produce battery-quality lithium hydroxide and renewable energy from the same naturally heated brine resource, creating a uniquely integrated critical minerals and clean energy project.  

As Europe seeks to strengthen its supply chain resilience and reduce reliance on imported critical raw materials, Lionheart is positioned to become a cornerstone asset in the region’s battery ecosystem. 

Lionheart is more than a lithium project. It represents a new blueprint for how critical minerals can be produced in a world increasingly focused on energy security, decarbonisation and supply chain sovereignty. 

The Project secured a $3.9 AUD billion financing package and has progressed into construction, reflecting support from a broad range of public and private sector stakeholders. Lionheart has also been recognised with Strategic Project status under the European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act, highlighting its importance to the continent’s long-term economic and industrial objectives.  

Importantly, Lionheart is expected to act as the foundation for Vulcan’s future growth across the Upper Rhine Valley, providing the operational, technical and commercial blueprint for subsequent developments.
