Vulcan Secures AUD$3,929 Billion Financing Package and Approves Construction of Phase One Lionheart
Vulcan Energy has secured a €2.2 billion financing package for Phase One Lionheart, enabling a Final Investment Decision and the start of construction. The project will establish an integrated lithium and renewable energy operation in Germany's Upper Rhine Valley, supporting Europe's battery supply chain and energy resilience.

Vulcan Energy has reached a defining milestone in the development of its flagship Phase One Lionheart Project, securing a comprehensive financing package to fully fund construction and development through to first production.
The financing package enabled the Vulcan Board to take a positive Final Investment Decision (FID), allowing construction activities to commence and moving the project from development into execution.
Located in Germany's Upper Rhine Valley, Phase One Lionheart is designed to become one of Europe's most significant critical raw materials and energy projects. The integrated development will combine lithium production with geothermal renewable energy generation, helping strengthen Europe's domestic battery materials supply chain.
Phase One Lionheart targets annual production of 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate, sufficient for approximately 500,000 electric vehicle batteries each year. The project will also generate around 275 GWh of renewable electricity and 560 GWh of renewable heat annually for local communities and industry.
Strong Support from European and International Partners
The financing package brings together support from a broad group of European, German and international institutions, alongside strategic investors and industrial partners.
More than €1.4 billion of support has been provided through government-backed European and international financing institutions, demonstrating confidence in the strategic importance of the project for Europe's industrial future.
The financing package also includes investment from leading strategic partners, including HOCHTIEF, Siemens Financial Services and Demeter, further reinforcing the project's importance to Europe's critical raw materials ecosystem.
With financing secured and project execution underway, Vulcan is focused on delivering Phase One Lionheart and establishing a domestic source of lithium chemicals for the European battery and electric vehicle industries.
Vulcan Energy Managing Director and CEO Cris Moreno said:
"Securing this financing package and taking a positive Final Investment Decision is a significant achievement in the history of Vulcan Energy. It allows us to transition from development into construction and execution of the Lionheart Project.
As a flagship project for Europe, Lionheart is set to help strengthen domestic lithium supply while also providing renewable energy for local communities and industry in the Upper Rhine Valley.
We thank our financial partners, strategic investors, government stakeholders, customers, shareholders and the Vulcan team for their continued support and commitment to the project."
The financing milestone marks a major step towards first production and reinforces Vulcan's ambition to help build a resilient European supply chain for critical battery raw materials.
