Vulcan Signs Main Heat Offtake Agreement for Phase One Lionheart
Vulcan Energy has signed its main heat offtake agreement with German municipal energy supplier EnergieSüdwest AG (ESW) for the supply of geothermal renewable heat from Phase One Lionheart. The agreement supports the expansion of district heating in Landau.

Vulcan Energy has signed a long-term heat offtake agreement with EnergieSüdwest AG (ESW) for the supply of geothermal renewable heat from its Phase One Lionheart Project in Germany's Upper Rhine Valley.
The agreement represents an important milestone for Lionheart's renewable energy operations and reinforces the project's dual role in supplying both critical raw materials and renewable geothermal energy. Through the partnership, heat generated from Vulcan's geothermal operations will be supplied into Landau's district heating network, helping support households, businesses and public infrastructure.
By utilising naturally occurring geothermal resources, the project will contribute to reducing reliance on conventional energy sources while strengthening local energy security and supporting the long-term expansion of renewable heat infrastructure in the region.
The agreement forms part of Vulcan's broader vision to integrate lithium production with renewable energy generation, delivering benefits to both the battery supply chain and local communities.
Vulcan Energy Managing Director and CEO Cris Moreno said:
"The signing of this agreement with ESW marks an important step towards long-term district heating and regional energy resilience.
This initiative represents the beginning of a broader transition to geothermal renewable energy in Landau and demonstrates how projects such as Lionheart can provide value beyond critical raw materials production by supporting local communities and industry."
The agreement further strengthens Lionheart's position as an integrated lithium and renewable energy project and highlights the growing role geothermal energy can play in supporting Germany's energy transition.
